Woody Point
Call it the little town that could. Since 1922, when fire destroyed the waterfront, including more than 55 buildings, Woody Point has recreated itself. The Woody Point Heritage Walk guides visitors through the reconstructed historic downtown area. The Woody Point Heritage Theatre, formerly the Lord Nelson Orange Lodge No.149, provides a spectacular taste of traditional music and dance. St. Patrick’s Church, the oldest in the diocese, features a hand-carved ceiling, original furnishings and artifacts. Walking trails go around the shore or lead to Gros Morne National Park’s Discovery Centre where informative and interactive exhibits help visitors understand the region’s landscapes, its flora and fauna and natural and cultural heritage.
