Imagine loading your home onto a barge and floating it across the Atlantic Ocean. Many Benoit’s Cove residents are direct descendants of the original Woods Island settlers, resettled by the provincial government in the 1950s and 1960s. The island is best viewed further along Route 450, but several homes in the area were towed across the bay by their owners. John’s Beach is the site of the first Anglican Church in the Bay of Islands, built in 1866. Frenchman’s Cove offers a great view of Woods Island and Guernsey Island, known locally as Weebald. Look for bright orange boats, called dories, that are the tool of trade for lobster fishermen.
