Brig Bay/Plum Point
From 1783 to 1904 the coastline from Cape Ray in the south to Cape St. John in Notre Dame Bay was known as the French Shore, which meant the French enjoyed exclusive rights to the rich fishing grounds. The impact of the French is an important part of northern Newfoundland’s history. In Plum Point, Darby’s Island and Brig Bay, you’ll find many relics of the French occupation including old buildings, gravesites, tombstones and traditions.
