Bay St. George Area
Bay St. George comes alive in the summer. Forty-five communities dot the shoreline. Monikers like De Grau, Petit Jardin and Journois; St. David’s, St. Fintan’s and St. George’s; Man of War Cove, Jerry’s Nose and Seal Rocks harken back to the days when the Acadian French, Cape Breton Scottish, Irish and British sailed the rich fishing grounds.
Blueberry festivals, theatrical performances and a Mi`kmaq Powwow. Nowhere is the music more appreciated, the dialect more varied, and the culture more diverse than in the Bay St. George region. Birthplace of Emile Benoit, Newfoundland and Labrador’s f nest fiddle player; home to the province’s largest French-speaking population; site of the former Ernest Harmon Air Force Base, this is one very interesting place to visit!
