Grey River
There’s gold in them hills. Its pyrite, or fool’s gold, but even that is a nice souvenir when harvested from Grey River’s old tungsten mine. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, Grey River is surrounded on three sides by mountains. A fjord runs past the community and separates into three river systems. North East Arm is one of eastern Canada’s best salmon rivers. South East Arm boasts rocky mountains, lush forests and sandy beaches reaching out a mile at low tide. Moose and caribou are frequent visitors to North West Arm.
For hikers… Six kilometres from Grey River, Gulch Cove is nestled beneath hills that tower nearly 800 feet on either side. Just above the cove is a narrow gorge where Grey River can be seen on the inside, and the Atlantic Ocean on the outside – truly impressive.
