Southwest Coast

Discover coastal adventures, mountain vistas, and geological wonders on the Southwest Coast. Governed by the land and the sea, this region is home to fishers and farmers, shipwrecks and sandy beaches, lighthouses, the infamous wreckhouse winds, and over 300 species of birds. The Southwest coast stretches from the gateway town of Port aux Basques to Stephenville, the Port au Port Peninsula, and to the coastal communities of Rose Blanche, Burgeo and Francois.

Only 30 minutes apart, the City of Corner Brook & the Town of Deer Lake are the major service centres for Western Newfoundland. The Humber River flows through the Humber Valley into the Bay of Islands, ruggedly beautiful through the rich greenery of summer, the rustic orange palette of fall, and the whites and blues of winter. In this region live like a local through four seasons of exceptional recreational and cultural experiences.

Gros Morne National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 for its impressive geological features. The 1805 sq kilometre park offers unsurpassed beauty and adventure – a perfect complement to the local cultural scene. Gros Morne encompasses the communities of Wiltondale, Glenburnie-Birchy Head-Shoal Brook, Woody Point, and Trout River along Route 431. As well as the communities of Norris Point, Rocky Harbour, Sally's Cove, St. Paul's, and Cow Head along Route 430.
